Target gets rid of tiny carts after complaints of kids ramming carts, bruising ankles

Target's tiny carts are done.

The Minneapolis-based retailer introduced shopping carts for kids to push around the store last month, but after getting a lot of negative feedback – including a movement started by an upset mommy blogger in the Twin Cities – Target decided to take the tiny carts out of stores.

Target spokesperson Kristy Welker confirmed this in a statement to BringMeTheNews Thursday:

"At Target, our guests are at the center of everything we do, and we value their feedback. We briefly tested kiddie carts at 72 Target stores, and after reviewing guest and stores feedback, we have made the decision to stop the test."

In late August, Target introduced the little shopping carts to 50 stores in Minnesota and 22 in New York, the Star Tribune says.

Kids seemed to love it.

But – as Business Insider put it – they seemed to be a "spectacular failure" for some parents.

Laura Rinas – the Twin Cities mommy blogger who started the #MASTC (Moms Against Stupid Tiny Carts) movement – referred to them as "vehicles of mass destruction" in a hilariously written blog post that ended up going viral.

Rinas said for a whole 10 seconds she thought the tiny cart "MIGHT" have been the cutest thing she'd ever seen. But then her tiny human pushing the tiny cart turned her typically magical trips to Target into pure madness. Her son put countless unneeded items in his cart, pushed the cart and let it run wild, and would crash his cart into other carts because he liked the sound it made.

Others took to social media to complain of bruised ankles, and pledged their allegiance to the #MASTC movement.

Target isn't the first retailer to have tiny carts for kids. Trader Joe's, Lunds and Byerly's, and Fresh Thyme, KARE 11 reports.
