Some Canadian shoppers don't have to wait much longer to get a sneak peek at Target's first international venture.

Target Corp. says it will open three pilot stores in Ontario on Tuesday, March 5, according to a company news release. They are the first of 124 locations the Minneapolis, Minn.-based retailer will open north of the border this year.

“The Target team is excited to open these test locations as we put the finishing touches on our stores, assortments and inventory,” Tony Fisher, president, Target Canada, said in a statement. “We look forward to delivering on our Expect More. Pay Less. brand promise and providing an outstanding shopping experience as we approach our grand opening in early April.”

The pilot stores will be used to prepare systems, train team members and determine operational readiness as the first wave of 24 stores are set to open across Ontario later this month.

Last week, Target officials said the retail giant was investing $1.5 billion to set up shop in Canada and convert Zellers stores.
