Target will be open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

The Minneapolis-based retailer said Monday it will be open "for the millions of families who make Black Friday in-store shopping part of their tradition." They'll stay open until 11 p.m. Friday, some event as late as midnight.

Target's head of stores told the Dow Joes Newswire the time "felt like a sweet spot."

Target makes sure to note all hourly employees who work on a holiday receive time-and-a-half pay, and associates who work certain shifts on Thanksgiving and Black Friday will get "additional compensation" on top of that.

In recent years, public pressure has built up with advocates claiming its unfair to employees who shouldn’t have to go to work on the prominent holiday. Target also opened at 6 p.m. last year, so it isn't any earlier for the bullseye.

That pressure has led to something of a backlash from shoppers, Consumer Affairs says, with at least 45 chains now opting to be closed on Turkey Day.

BestBlackFriday.com keeps an updated, running list of those stores. The site has confirmation from places such as GameStop, Half Price Books, Lowe's Sam's Club, Costco and more.

FOX 8 in Greensboro, North Carolina, spoke with the head of Wake Forest University's Center for Retail Innovation. He told the station going back and staying closed is a good strategy now, since you'll stand out as doing something different.

In 2014, Best Buy opened at 5 p.m. – the Richfield-based company hasn't announced store hours for 2015 yet. But it did host a Saturday-only, in-store Black Friday prices pre-sale event, the International Business Times reported.

According to CNBC, Toys R Us will open at 5 p.m. Thanksgiving; Sears, Macy's and Belk have opted for 6 p.m.

There are, as is the norm now, plenty of online and pre-Black Friday deals to consider too – if you're interested, check out Target's detailed release which talks about its deals that start today, or browse around on BestBlackFriday.com.
