Police are investigating several images of possible child pornography found on a camera belonging to a St. Paul public school.

The Star Tribune reports the camera was returned after it had gone missing for months. Once it was returned, a teacher went to recharge it and discovered the photos.

Officials are not identifying the school or its grade levels, citing protocol with such cases where potential victims could be identified with the information.

The camera is one of several available for student and staff use. St. Paul Public Schools spokeswoman Toya Stewart Downey says it’s unclear where the camera was when it was missing, who returned it and when.

The images appeared to depict one person, Downey says.

Police say there's currently no indication of any staff involvement. The investigation is ongoing.
