A 14-year-old teen is in in the hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car when riding her bike in New Brighton Sunday.
The bicyclist was in the crosswalk heading north on Silver Lake Road, when a car trying to make a left turn onto the Interstate 694 ramp struck her, according to the State Patrol incident report.
The St. Anthony teen was transported to Children's Hospital.
The driver of the vehicle is identified as 28-year-old Raymond Widstrand, who was not injured.
Widstrand made headlines two years ago almost to the day, when gang members beat him nearly to death on St. Paul's east side. He was on a late-night walk and tried to pass through a crowd, when he was attacked and knocked down, kicked and stomped.
He suffered a brain injury and was put into a medically induced coma. Widstrand underwent physical, speech and occupational therapy, and he extended forgiveness to those who hurt him.
Cindarion Butler was convicted early last year and sentenced to 16 years in prison for his involvement in the beating.
Two teens who were 15 years old at the time of the crime were also charged with assault. The first pleaded guilty and was sentenced to up to 24 months as well as enhanced supervision until he turns 21.
The second was acquitted in the case, but he was charged in July in connection with a drive-by shooting.
