A 15-year-old girl is dead after a fire engulfed a home in Hawley in the northwestern part of the state early Sunday morning, according to Forum Communications.
WDAY reports that the call came in around 1:30 a.m. when a neighbor heard screams for help.
Hawley Mayor Gary E. Johnson, who is also part of Hawley’s rescue squad, said the home was an “inferno” by the time that crews from six area fire departments began arriviving. He said the teen’s mother and two siblings were able to escape the house.
The fire remains under investigation. The cause has not been determined.
