A 19-year-old man, reportedly a University of Minnesota student, is in a critical condition after falling five stories from an apartment building.

Police have told media that the man fell from a fifth floor balcony at the FloCo Fusion Apartments on University Ave. SE in Dinkytown, Minneapolis, at around 10 p.m. on Saturday.

FOX 9 reports that the man is a student at the University of Minnesota, and was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with critical injuries.

The identity of the victim has not been released at this stage, nor have any details relating to how he came to fall, but the Star Tribune said it was an "apparent stunt gone awry."

The MN Daily spoke to science junior Claire Steffenhagen, who in the aftermath of the fall said she walked past the apartment building to see a man laying on his stomach.

"And we looked up, and everyone was just packed on that balcony, looking down," she said, adding that she handed pitchers of water to paramedics to help them wash blood off the man, who she heard "breathing really hard."

According to KSTP, police are not investigating it as a criminal incident.

The FloCo Fusion building offers student apartments that are situated on the border of the U of M campus, its website says.
