Temps in the 30s? Maybe soon, but we've got a bit more cold first

What do you call it when forecast highs are in the low teens, but everyone is at least a little bit happy because that sounds warm?

After one more cold, cold night, that's exactly what's on tap – a "warm-up" that really only feels warm compared to what we've been through these past few days.

Hold tight though – in about a week, temps in the 30s could be coming.

Here's a look at the forecast.

Frigid Friday night

Get ready for yet another cold night tonight.

The National Weather Service is going with an additional wind chill advisory tonight through mid-morning Saturday for most of Minnesota.

"Feels like" temperatures will be down in the minus 20 degree range in the Twin Cities Saturday morning with actual air temperatures near negative 10 degrees.

Look for pretty similar numbers to that – within a few degrees, plus or minus – in the northeast portion of the state, the St. Cloud region, down in the southwest and up in the Red River Valley.

Warming up this weekend.

It's not a huge warm up by any means, but we'll actual see double-digit highs both Saturday and Sunday in the Twin Cities.

By Minnesota standards, that's pretty good. Look for temperatures to top out near 12 degrees both days of the weekend with morning lows Sunday morning around zero degrees ... not bad huh?

Here's a look at a few more spots around the state:

Duluth: A high of 10 degrees Saturday, with wind gusts reaching 20 mph. Same high for Sunday, with just a light northwest breeze and a low of negative 8.

Marshall: A practically balmy high of 17 degrees Saturday, with winds of 5-10 mph. The low will probably be about negative 1. On Sunday, a 10-degree high with a low of minus 5.

Moorhead: Partly cloud with a high near 9 Saturday, but wind chills could stay in the negative 20 range. A similar high on Sunday, but with less wind. Low around minus 9 both days.

Rochester: You might not sink below zero Saturday! A forecast high of 13, with a low around 4. But those wind chills ... could reach negative 30 that day. Temps could push 15 degrees on Sunday.

St. Cloud: The actual temp could hit 11 degrees above zero Saturday, but wind chill values could be about negative 25. The low will be just below zero likely. High of 10 Sunday.

Cold coming ... then a thaw?

The "warm-up" is short.

Expect another blast of Arctic air early next week. The forecast is calling for highs in the single-digits again Monday as temperatures bottom out between 5 and 10 degrees below zero in the morning.

However: A warming trend begins Tuesday.

Temperatures are going to reach the teens Tuesday, with 20s expected through Thursday. Long range models all hint at a sizable ridge of high pressure to build over the Midwest thereafter, which would spell even warmer readings.

Highs in the 30s are certainly possible by next weekend.
