Several media outlets are reporting five children died in a fire at a north Minneapolis duplex Friday morning. Fire crews were called to the blaze at 2818 Colfax Avenue N. around 5 a.m. Minneapolis Fire Chief John Fruetel said firefighters encountered heavy smoke in the three-story building.
The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis is attempting to block a court order to depose Archbishop John Nienstedt and former Vicar General Kevin McDonough within the next month. The archdiocese filed a motion Thursday to put a hold on the depositions, claiming "the extensive requirements of the judge's order reach beyond the limits of Minnesota law."
Gov. Mark Dayton returned to St. Paul on Friday after having hip surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, earlier this week. Doctors at Mayo performed a procedure to reattach a tendon in Dayton's hip, which he injured during a fall at the governor's residence last year.
