Minnesota the first to require "kill switch" on smart phones

Gov. Mark Dayton has signed the “kill switch” bill into law, making Minnesota first in the nation to require smartphones and tablets sold in the state to have remote shut-off devices in case a device is stolen.

2nd suspect charged in Mankato assault; denies throwing punch

Trevor Shelley, 21, of St. Peter, Minnesota, has been charged in an assault on a man in Mankato over the weekend that left the victim fighting for his life. Shelley has denied punching the victim in the head. Former Gopher quarterback Philip Nelson is also charged with assault in the same case.

If you’ve been grumbling about unseasonably cool weather this week, you might remember last year when it was exactly the opposite. Last year on May 14, much of Minnesota was sweltering, with a record high of 98 degrees in the metro.
