Charges: Man impersonates police officer, rapes woman in Fridley

Bail has been set at $1 million for a Brooklyn Park man who was arrested Tuesday and is now facing charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping. Gideon Charles Arrington II was arrested in Brooklyn Center on Tuesday evening. He allegedly told his female victim he was a detective and began asking her questions.

Condition update for UMD student who spent the night outside

The condition of the 19-year-old University of Minnesota Duluth student being treated for severe frostbite and hypothermia remains in critical but stable condition. Alyssa Lommel is being treated at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The UMD sophomore apparently spent nine hours in the sub-zero weather early Saturday morning before she was discovered on her neighbors porch.

Sartell ice fisherman under water 40 minutes; now likely to recover

A Sartell man who fell through the ice on Little Rock Lake Nov. 15 is close to making a full recovery. Rescuers say Josh Johnson was under water for 40 minutes and his heart had stopped for over an hour. Doctors of the Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview say he suffered no brain damage, and his damaged organs will heal.

Xcel Energy's latest rate increase approved by regulators

Minnesota's Public Utilities Commission unanimously approved a temporary rate increase for Xcel Energy on Thursday. The 4.6 interim hike takes effect next month and is the sixth increase in eight years for Xcel.

Minneapolis police union won't fight officer firing

The Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis voted Wednesday night not to file a grievance over the termination of two officers fired for using racial slurs. Officers Brian Thole and Shawn Powell were fired last week. Police in Green Bay recorded video of the two off duty officers using racial slurs during a fight with a group of black men outside of a bar.
