The best places to watch Minnesota fireworks

Author:

Flooding has changed some plans for Fourth of July celebrations throughout the state, but many shows will go on.

St. Paul's annual fireworks display will continue, despite Harriet Island flooding and A Taste of Minnesota moving to the Carver County Fairgrounds in Waconia.

The St. Paul fireworks show has been moved to the grounds of the State Capitol Mall on Friday at 10 p.m.

Flooding has forced other cities to move or alter their Fourth of July plans. The city of Delano, which has had a lot of flooding the past few weeks, noted on its July Fourth website, "contrary to popular rumor, Delano has not floated away" and the show will happen with just slight changes in location.

Best places to watch fireworks

Most cities and towns across the Land of 10,000 Lakes have a fireworks show for the Fourth of July, so it can be hard to choose which one to watch. Here are some of the best:

Minneapolis Red, White and Boom

The website Twin Cities Fireworks says Minneapolis' Red, White and Boom is one of the state's largest and highest-budget fireworks shows. In addition to a long-lasting program, there's also family activities, live entertainment and the annual "Hot Dam" 5K and half marathon. The fireworks show starts around 10 p.m. on Friday.

Yelp, a popular consumer review website, has a list of the best places to watch fireworks in Minneapolis.

Duluth Fourth Fest

Duluth Fourth Fest has dubbed its "fireworks extravaganza" the largest in the state. Twin Cities Fireworks and MPR News have both credited the city with having a noteworthy aerial display. The fireworks show is fully synchronized to music, which is broadcast on NU92 FM (92.1). The show starts at 10:10 p.m. on July 4.

St. Cloud

MPR News featured this show among its 17 best in the state. Fireworks are shot off from a barge in the Mississippi River, starting at about 1o p.m. More info here.

Delano Fourth of July Celebration

Several media outlets have said Delano, which claims to have the oldest and largest Fourth of July celebration, is the place to go for fireworks. WCCO calls the 30-minute closing fireworks show "one of the best in the state." It's the 158th year for Delano's celebration, and the fireworks will go off at 10:30 p.m. on July 5.

Brainerd Lakes Area Fourth of July American Celebration

Brainerd, a popular Fourth of July destination for many metro-area Minnesotans, also has one of the best fireworks shows, MPR News notes. The Brainerd Lakes Area 4th of July American Celebration says it has "world class" fireworks; they'll go off at 10:15 p.m.

Stewartville SummerFest

Located near Rochester, Stewartville's SummerFest is said to have one of the best fireworks displays in Minnesota. The city of 8,000 attracts people from the Twin Cities and Rochester for its fireworks show over the Root River – and there are hardly any mosquitoes because of the large bat population near the river, MPR News says. The fireworks will start shooting in the air at dusk on July 4.

Hudson, Wisconsin

Miss the show on July 4? Hudson has a July 5tshow at Lake Front Park, over the St. Croix River, at dusk.
