Expect to get your bag checked when you enter the Minnesota State Fair this year.

The State Fair said Tuesday bag checks will be carried out at all 11 of the fairground's entry gates, with purses, coolers and packages also subject to searches.

In a statement, the fair says it has also made several changes to its safety procedures, which includes beefing up its security staffing levels, and adjusting its vehicle access, traffic management and video systems.

The fair says it undertook a major expansion of its security systems in 2002 and since then has made annual adjustments to it.

The Great Minnesota Get-Together gets underway on Thursday, Aug. 25 and runs, as usual, until Labor Day on Sept. 5.

Almost 1.8 million people visited the fair in 2015, according to official figures.
