The Minnesota Zoo is getting kangaroos, wallabies and emus this summer

It's part of the zoo's new Kangaroo Crossing exhibit

The Minnesota Zoo celebrated Australia Day Thursday by announcing it'll be opening a kangaroo exhibit in a few months.

The Kangaroo Crossing exhibit – which will feature red kangaroos, wallabies and emus – is slated to open on the zoo's Northern Trail in May, according to a Facebook video.

It'll be a seasonal exhibit where visitors can actually walk through the habitat with the animals (there will be minimal separation between you and them). And to give people a truly Australian experience, the zoo will be offering themed foods and drinks.

“We are excited to immerse our guests this summer with an extremely interactive and authentic experience,” John Frawley, Minnesota Zoo director and president, said in a news release. “Kangaroo Crossing is going to be a Midwest ‘must-see’ this summer.”

The exhibit will be open on the weekends starting May 6, and then it'll be open daily from May 27 through Labor Day. After that, it'll just be open on the weekends through Oct. 15.
