The New York Times says Minneapolis should be on your list of places to visit this year

Minneapolis came in at No. 23 on the list, right behind the Great Barrier Reef.

Everyone thinks people should visit Minnesota this year.

First it was Condé Nast suggesting travelers pay a visit to Minneapolis in 2017, and now it's the New York Times.

The newspaper, which has praised the Twin Cities theater, arts and food scene in the past, put Minneapolis at No. 23 – right behind the Great Barrier Reef in Australia – on its list of 52 places to go in 2017.

Why? Because there's a lot going on.

The New York Times mentions the X Games coming to U.S. Bank Stadium in July, the Walker Art Center reopening its sculpture garden, and of course all of the things you can do to honor Prince, like take a tour of First Avenue or Paisley Park.

In a post on Facebook, the paper asked people for their suggestions of what to do in Minneapolis. Responses included packing a lunch and going kayaking, checking out Minnehaha Falls, touring Surly Brewing, and having Nordic food.

If you're looking to travel outside of Minnesota this year, here are the top 10 places the New York Times suggests visiting this year:

  1. Canada
  2. Atacama Desert, Chile
  3. Agra, India
  4. Zermatt, Switzerland
  5. Botswana
  6. Dubrovnik, Croatia
  7. Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming
  8. Tijuana, Mexico
  9. Detroit, Michigan
