It turns out the skull that was found in a Meeker County home early this year did belong to a person.

The story began back on Jan. 5, when the Meeker County Sheriff says deputies responded to a call that a man was unresponsive in a Forest City Township home.

James Webster was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say the 77-year-old died of natural causes.

In a search of his home, investigators found marijuana – 10 pounds of it – and $1,000 in cash, the sheriff says.

But that wasn't the strange part.

Officials also found what appeared to be a human skull.

It was sent to a lab for testing, and Meeker County officials announced Friday that it is a human skull. An examination determined it was the skull of a man who probably died in his mid 40s. He was likely white or Hispanic.

Authorities do not know what year the man died, but say witnesses reported say it had been at Webster's home for about 20 years.

Webster, who lived with a 70-year-old woman, may have received the human remains from a friend, officials note.

The Meeker County Sheriff's office asks anyone with information to call them at 320-693-5400.
