The Strip Club is closing ... no, the restaurant

The chef recently won a Charlie Award.

The Strip Club that you don't have to feel at all ashamed walking into is closing.

The Strip Club Meat & Fish, a St. Paul steakhouse that earned plenty of acclaim, will be ending its run July 1, Heavy Table reports.

The restaurant also commented on Twitter:

The East Side spot opened in 2008, the work of chef J. D. Fratzke and co-founder Tim Niver. Minnesota Monthly at the time wrote about the eye-catching name, and noted the theme (at the time) carried over to the menu – but despite the stripping puns, there was some "perfectly serious cooking" going on.

Since then they've chugged along. Fratzke was named outstanding chef at the 2016 Charlie Awards. Strip Club recently redid the menu, and the Pioneer Press was impressed.

But Niver told Mpls.St.Paul Magazine the lease is ending, and when thinking about the future they "didn't really know what five more years on the hill would look like for us."

So they opted to go out "gracefully," he said.

Fratzke and Niver also own Saint Dinette. The Business Journal recently reported Fratzke has struck a deal with the MSP Airport lounge Escape, while Niver has Mucci's Italian up and running.
