The Twin Cities battle rap scene put out great music in 2016

When not insulting each other over a beat, the Minnesota battle scene's made some great music too. Check out these standout cuts!

2016 was a great year for Minnesota battle rap.

From the Vesh winning our Make America Battle Again tournament to the Lush One hosting Snow Coast 2 event -- bringing MCs from all over the world to Minneapolis to compete -- there was no shortage of major moments. That also goes for what these MCs did off the stage while in the booth.

We've assembled 2016's finest to bring you the Minnesota battle rap scene's best tracks of 2016.

Breakneck the Mage featuring Ecid - "Slack Jaw"
Starting things off we have the don of the Twin Cities battle league, No Coast's Breakneck the Mage. When he's not organizing some of the most fun rap battle events on the continent, he's making some pretty great music too. The first single off his Protecting Metropolis album, "Slack Jaw," was one of the summer's finest underground bangers.

P.T. - "Damn Right"
Whether you call him "P.T." or by his full name "Perceptive Theme," you're obligated to call his infectious single "Damn Right" pretty darn dope. Witty wordplay and a catchy hook over a driving ominous production, it's one of the local scene's best.

Analyrical - "The Heartbeat"
The title track from Make America Battle Again semi-finalist Analyrical's The Heartbeat EP tells a detailed account of discovering a diabetic scare. Over a disarmingly upbeat production, Analyrical's charisma really makes the narrative gripping without being unsettling.
