If you are disappointed that you missed the Northern Lights earlier this week, and don't have anything planned early Saturday morning there's a good chance you could catch another brilliant show overnight.

The Space Weather Prediction Center is predicting a strong possibility the Northern Lights will return Friday night and peak between 3 a.m. and dawn on Saturday morning.

According to the center, a strong geomagnetic storm rated G2 to G3 was detected earlier today on the sun.

MPR News reports Northern Lights are more likely to occur further south when strong geomagnetic storms occur.

They were out in full force earlier this week. FOX 9 caught a time lapse video of what they looked like in Minnesota.
