There's an official Prince YouTube account now, with videos

It was probably inevitable. But it's still strange to see.

Prince was never a fan of his music being on YouTube.

It took him eight years to be comfortable with this fuzzy recording of his live "Creep" cover existing online. And that's not even his song!

But the online blackout he was notorious for enforcing is slowly being chipped away. The most recent example? There's now an official Prince YouTube channel, with videos for some of his biggest hits.

"Let's Go Crazy," "When Doves Cry" (both the official and extended versions), "Take Me With U," "I Would Die 4 U," and "I'm a Star" were all uploaded Friday morning.

Before this, it was nearly impossible to find actual recordings of his songs on YouTube.

Remember, this was the artist who went after Vine and YouTube users who just used snippets of his tracks, Slate pointed out, including one where kids were dancing while "Let's Go Crazy" played in the background.

Since Prince's death, his music has been made available on major streaming services, and unreleased tracks and recordings were released as part of a Purple Rain reissue.

And there's even that deal with Universal Music Group for the rights to all his material from "The Vault" (though there might be some legal troubles with that).

But hey, these videos are now widely available online when they never were before. So enjoy.
