Thief swipes car that driver left idling to warm up

Author:

It's a common winter sight in Minnesota – idling, empty cars sitting in driveways and parking lots while drivers wait a few minutes indoors for the vehicles to warm up. Police say drivers are taking a risk, and occasionally a thief grabs the opportunity.

That's what Todd County Sheriff’s officials say happened Saturday afternoon, with an unsolved twist. A vehicle was reported stolen in Grey Eagle about 100 miles northwest of the Twin Cities, the St. Cloud Times reports. The thief left town heading south on Minnesota Highway 28 toward Wards Springs – but didn't get far at all, the newspaper reports.

Twenty minutes later, deputies got a call about a one-vehicle rollover accident south of Grey Eagle. Nobody was at the scene of the crash, the Times says. Deputies continue to investigate.
