A third challenger is in the 2014 race for the U.S. Senate seat held by first-term DFL Sen. Al Franken, according to MPR.

Speaking on Saturday before supporters in her hometown of Waconia, State Sen. Julianne Ortman, R-Chanhassen, said that she will address the "never ending bickering leading to more spending and less freedom" in Washington.

Ortman was elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2002. When the Republicans were in control of the Senate, she served as deputy majority leader and chairwoman of the Taxes Committee.

Businessman Mike McFadden of Sunfish Lake and state Rep. Jim Abeler of Anoka are also in the race. On Friday two former GOP senators threw their support to McFadden.
