This clown: Nope. Nope, nope, nope. Noooope.

In case you need a good dash of "Noooope!" news today, here's a story from Green Bay, where people are getting freaked out by this clown.

It was first spotted around 2 a.m. Monday, according to the Facebook fan page (yes that's correct, a fan page) dedicated to the clown. The page has also dubbed it "Gags."

Give us a second here so we can ...

Anyway, the Gags fan page has more than 10,000 likes.

The clown has been making headlines around the country and globe since the photos first went up. According to WGN, one Facebooker says it's the work of a director who is in town shooting a horror short. That hasn't been confirmed though.

Police told NBC 26 people can dress how they want, and there's nothing illegal about it at this point.

If this sounds familiar, it's because someone else did this last year in Waukesha.

Police at the time said they were aware of the situation, and that it was a teenager who is "developmentally delayed" and wanted to see how people reacted.

Coulrophobia (fear of clowns)

Clowns are supposed to be fun and joyful characters, but some people have an irrational fear – called coulrophobia – of the jokesters, NBC News said. Although the full-blown fear of clowns is quite rare, Business Insider notes, it’s not uncommon for people of all ages to be creeped out.

Several publications and at least one study, which found clowns are too scary for hospitals, have discussed the fear.

A 2013 piece by Smithsonian Magazine titled “The History and Psychology of Clowns Being Scary” says the jesters may have always been scary – they’ve long been tied with a dark history that includes murder, financial ruin, infidelity and pedophilia.

In 2015, The Telegraph wrote an article about why clowns are so scary, noting the clowns mask is used to hide its true emotions, among other things.
