This adorable bobcat kitten needs a name, and the Wildcat Sanctuary in Sandstone – which is just east of Mille Lacs Lake – is asking for help.

According to the Sanctuary, the female kitten's sibling and mother were both struck by vehicles.

The young bobcat was rescued and taken to Wildwoods Wildlife Rehabilitation in Duluth.

Because the kitten is so young and winter is coming, experts decided it's probably not safe to release her back into the wild. So the bobcat will permanently live in the Wildcat Sanctuary's more natural, captive environment.

“We would’ve loved to have seen this little scared girl grow up wild. But when that wasn’t an option for her, we agreed to provide her a home at The Wildcat Sanctuary," Director Tammy Thies said in a statement. "We knew we had to give her the chance to live wild at heart.”

Now she just needs a name.

Ideas need to be submitted by Sept. 28.

Staff will vote on the submitted names and make a final decision at the end of the month.

The Wildcat Sanctuary in Sandstone is home to about 100 other big cats like tigers, lions and leopards.

Bobcats wind up at sanctuary after attacking owner

Keeping a bobcat as a pet is illegal in Minnesota. That didn't stop a Mankato area man from spending $1,700 online to buy four of them. He had a change of heart, though, after they attacked him. Now the animals are at the Wildcat Sanctuary near Sandstone. An official there says keeping bobcats as pets is a growing problem.
