This week in music: Bon Jovi set to rock Xcel

Hit rockers Bon Jovi will be playing the Xcel Energy Center Sunday night as part of the band's "Because We Can" world tour.

Led by singer Jon Bon Jovi and guitarist Richie Sambora, Bon Jovi is touring in support of the group's latest CD, "What About Now."

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said in its review of the show in late February that the band's set list naturally included some new tunes, but there were "20-some spots open for greatest hits and other favorites" that encompassed the band's 30-year run.

The review mostly praised the rockers, noting that the group still knows how to show their fans "a spirited and tuneful good time."

The Columbus Dispatch was equally as enthusiastic in its review of a show in Columbus, Ohio, in mid-March, saying "the energy barely slacked, even during material not already proven."

Coming to the Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis Friday is the Grammy Award and Country Music Association Award-winning quintet The Mavericks, who are touring in support of their new album "In Time."

Also coming through Minnesota this week are legendary rockers the Doobie Brothers, who are playing Saturday at Treasure Island Casino in Red Wing.
