Thomson Reuters Corp., a news and financial information company based in New York, says it's eliminating 2,500 jobs, or about 4 percent of its workforce, this year as it tries to cut costs, the Associated Press reports.

CEO Jim Smith told investors on Wednesday that the positions will come from the company's Financial and Risk division

According to the Star Tribune, the cuts will not affect the roughly 7,000 employees at Thomson Reuters' Eagan campus. In fact, the company has several Minnesota job openings on its website.

Thomson Reuters posted a fourth-quarter profit of $372 million, compared with a loss of $2.6 billion a year earlier, according to Dow Jones Newswires.
