Thousands of Minnesotans signed up for health insurance already, MNsure says

After a rocky start for open enrollment, more than 13,000 have successfully signed up for health coverage.

A lot of people have signed up for health insurance already.

As of Friday morning, over 13,000 Minnesotans had signed up for health coverage since the start of open enrollment, which began on Nov. 1, MNsure said in a news release.

Compared to last year, that's a lot of people in a short amount of time. It took nearly a month to hit 10,000 enrollments last year, Inforum said.

And it's good news, considering the website had a bumpy start earlier in the week, when a bunch of government websites were down, and MNsure's call center was tied up by robocallers.

The issues may have been an intentional attack, but have since been resolved.

Tons of activity on the website

MNsure says thousands across the state have visited their website to compare plans, shop and enroll in coverage.

The numbers as of Friday morning:

  • 13,040 people completed enrollment for health coverage
  • 187,683 visits to the MNsure website
  • 43,298 sessions or visits on the comparison shopping tool
  • 4,027 page views on the Assisters page
  • 12,121 accounts created
  • 13,701 applications completed

The enrollment period continues until January 31, 2017, but people don't seem to be procrastinating.

That's probably because insurance companies are limiting how many new policies they sell, and state officials are urging people to sign up early before normal policies are sold out, the Pioneer Press noted.

Shorter wait times for the call center

A lot of people experienced busy signals and long wait times to the call center on Tuesday, but things have since improved.

MNsure said the call center is working longer hours now, and the average wait time was down to 42 seconds as of Friday.
