Three killed, three seriously injured when minivan collides with shuttle bus

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a devastating New Year's Eve crash in southwestern Minnesota.

The Marshall Independent reported that the head-on collision happened around 3 p.m. Wednesday on Minnesota State Highway 23 near the town of Lynd in Lyon County.

KWOA in Worthington reported that a Dodge Caravan driven by Robert McClain, 80, of Marshall, was traveling east when it entered the westbound lane and struck a shuttle bus head on. McClain and his wife Shirley, 72, a passenger in the car, both died in the crash.

A passenger in the shuttle bus, Phylis Behnke, 88, of Arco, was also killed in the collision.

KARE reported that the driver and two passengers of the shuttle bus were seriously injured and are being treated at a hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The Associated Press noted that the roads were dry at the time of the accident.
