Three-lens glasses worn by Prince on SNL designed by Minnesota sisters

Born and raised in Minneapolis, but now a global superstar, it's good to know that Prince is still shopping local.

He took to the stage on Saturday Night Live at the beginning of this month with his band, 3rdEyeGirl, sporting a rather unusual pair of three-lens sunglasses.

And these glasses were designed by none other than Chanhassen twin sisters Coco and Breezy Dotson, who grew up a mile away from Prince in Paisley Park, the Pioneer Press reports.

The twins are now based in New York, where they moved in 2012 with little money to their name and no place to stay.

Fast-forward two years and they now have a growing reputation as fashion artists through their sunglasses, clothing and accessories designs, according to the Huffington Post.

They told the Minnesota Monthly that they spent time with Prince in July and were asked to come up with a pair of sunglasses based on a drawing on the cover of one of his latest albums, 'Art Official Age'.

"It was funny because we actually didn’t know that he was going wear them on SNL," Coco told the magazine.

"Prince invited us to the SNL show, so Breezy and I were anticipating and nervous the whole show until he got on stage. Then Breezy started crying of excitement that he was rocking the sunglasses."

Big-time celebrities including Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj are counted among the twins' clients, but the hometown connection with Prince made it particularly special, and they now plan on producing more of his glasses.

You can find out more about the pair on their official website.
