Three-vehicle accident on Hwy. 169 among 6 fatal crashes this weekend

Minnesota roads claimed at least six lives between Friday night and Saturday afternoon, according to KSTP-TV.

Just one of the deadly crashes includes a motorcyclist driving northbound on Hwy. 169 near Interstate 94 rear-ended another vehicle Saturday afternoon, according the State Patrol.

KARE 11 reports the victim in that accident is Louise J. Moyer, 63, from Elk River. The station also reports that the crash involved three vehicles, but the 72-year-old driver of the Harley Davidson suffered non-life threatening injuries. KSTP-TV says the motorcyclist is Leroy Moyer of Elk River, and that one of the other motorists is uninjured.

“The circumstances are still under investigation, however, initial information indicates that the motorcycle rear-ended another vehicle,” State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske tells WCCO.

The Star Tribune, meanwhile, has details on five of the fatalities on Minnesota roads, three of which involved semis. The State Patrol, according to the Strib, lists the four other victims as Dennis Twite, 54, of Caledonia; Tyson Raitz, 35, New Ulm; Cynthia Zillmer, 57, of Foley; and Lila Spike, 77, of Maple Lake.

"It’s troubling to see that many happen,” Roeske tells the Strib. “Summer weekends can be very, very deadly.”
