Tickets are on sale today for the Winterfest craft beer festival

Hundreds of specialty beers will be available to sample.

Hundreds of specialty beers from Minnesota breweries will be available to sample at this year's Winterfest.

The 16th annual Winterfest is moving from Union Depot in St. Paul to Target Field in Minneapolis for the Feb. 24 event, with the organizers (the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild) saying the space will help accommodate nearly 100 Minnesota breweries.

What to expect

This year's event will also be one night, instead of two nights like it was last year.

A ticket (they go on sale Tuesday – more on that below) to Winterfest includes unlimited samples of hundreds of specialty and seasonal beers from Minnesota beer makers from 7-10 p.m., as well as "upscale catered food" and craft beer education.

Attendees will also get to vote on their favorite brew at the festival – the winning brewery will be awarded the "Best of Fest" Great Snowshoe Award at the end of the night. Last year's winners were the Raspberry Roselle by Fair State Cooperative and Dark Knight Returns by Barley John's Brew Pub.

The beers that'll be available at the 2017 Winterfest haven't been released, but for an idea of the types of beer that's been available in the past, check out this story.

Minneapolis Eater profiled Winterfest last year, looking back at its 15-year history and noting what makes it different from other fests: It's not just a place people go for an all-you-can-drink event, but a place for craft beer lovers to go and meet the people who make their beer.

It is usually brewers' favorite beer festival of the year, Eater noted.

Getting tickets

Tickets go on sale Tuesday at noon – you can buy them online here for $75 (they're $85 at the door).

There are also discount ticket packages available for beer lovers looking to attend Winterfest, as well as the Brewers Guild's All Pints North Summer Brew Fest (in Duluth on July 29), and the Autumn Brew Review (Sept. 16 in Minneapolis).
