The restaurant described as having the "best tasting menu in Minneapolis" is closing.

Birdie, the 20-seat annex to the Nighthawks diner at 38th and Nicollet in south Minneapolis, has won widespread acclaim for its experimental, $100-a-head, eight-to-14-course tasting menus.

But the last dining experience at the venue will be on May 20, with an announcement on its Facebook page confirming it will only open for nine more days between now and then.

Tickets for a few of those nights are still available, though several have already sold out since Thursday's announcement. You can book your spot here.

It was MSP Mag that lauded Birdie as having the best tasting menu in Minneapolis, noting Birdie was originally a venture designed to give Nighthawks chef Landon Schoenefeld a chance to "showcase his more creative and precise culinary side with his team."

Schoenefeld left in November yet Birdie continued to excel under the team of Jessi Peine, Britt St. Clair and Tlanezi Guzman, though Peine is now leaving to concentrate on her Peeps Hotbox food truck, according to the restaurant's Facebook post.

The Birdie space is now being turned into a room for pop-ups and private events, including space for other guest chefs, MSP Mag notes.

Birdie was the winner of the "Best Fine Dining" category in CityPages' "Best of 2016" list, with the magazine saying: "In exchange for the neat and tight price of a $100 bill, diners are given a ticket to the show: 10 to 14 dishes comprising some of the finest cooking in town right now."

It added: "You're never quite sure what you're going to get, as the menu constantly evolves. This is the new face of fine dining, and it's all very surprising."
