Trader Joe's to open Shoreview store in July

Venture Pass Partners, a development company based in Wayzata, is getting ready to start building a Trader Joe's near a Super Target in Shoreview, Minn., Finance & Commerce reports. The specialty grocery store is expected to open this summer.

Rumors that Trader Joe's was eying the north metro site first surfaced in December after the Shoreview City Council approved an off-sale liquor license.

The California-based supermarket chain has seven other Minnesota locations, including Bloomington, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Rochester, St. Louis Park, St. Paul and Woodbury.

Trader Joe's called off a project in Excelsior last month. Plans to move forward with a store in the Lyn-Lake neighborhood of Minneapolis also fell apart over zoning issues last summer.

Trader Joe's store faces big vote in Minneapolis

The Minneapolis City Council's Zoning and Planning committee will decide Thursday whether the proposed Lyn-Lake location should be rezoned to allow Trader Joe's to include an attached beer and wine store. Finance & Commerce reports council member Meg Tuthill does not support rezoning. If the project is approved, construction on the sixth Trader Joe's in the metro area could begin this fall and open next spring.
