Traffic jam at new Popeye's Chicken in Brooklyn Park

Fans of Popeye's chicken overwhelmed a new location that opened in Brooklyn Park last week. Demand for the popular fried chicken created a traffic jam and an hour-long line for the drive-thru this weekend.

Fox 9 says the restaurant had to call in police to help keep things under control, but many customers said the area was still chaotic. The new Popeyes franchise is near the Starlight Shopping Center, which is already one of the busiest spots in Brooklyn Park.

The Star Tribune notes this is the first of 13 new Popeyes to open by late July. Other locations include Coon Rapids, Maplewood and Crystal.

Last fall, a bankruptcy judge approved a deal to allow Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen to buy more than a dozen KFC restaurants in the Twin Cities metro, even though a bid from another KFC franchisee involved more money.
