A White Bear Lake High School student has died from injuries sustained in a "freak accident" on campus grounds.
A letter to parents sent out by the school says that Sawyer Moeller, a freshman at the school's North Campus, died Friday morning, the Star Tribune reports.
A school district spokeswoman told the newspaper that Moeller was involved in an accident on school grounds on November 10.
KSTP has reported that the accident happened during theater rehearsals, and a police statement issued Saturday said Moeller was found with a red mark or abrasion on his neck, according to the Associated Press, but added that there were no witnesses to the incident.
Shocked friends paid tribute to the teen to KSTP, describing the theater program and choir member as a "showman".
"He stood out the most in our choir class. Best singer we had and just a great kid overall," student Luke Kubal told the station, while another described him as "very outgoing and charismatic."
Another student, Sisloob Lo, told the Star Tribune: "He was a great choir kid. He was also one of the greatest crew members the theater program could ever have. He was the kind of kid that found the best things in like every situation."
The school has already sent out advice to parents on how to help students cope with the tragedy, and has said it will offer grief counseling to anyone who needs it.
