Train derails near entrance to Valleyfair, intersection likely closed for 'some time'

A train has derailed just outside of Valleyfair theme park in Shakopee on Thursday morning.

The incident happened just after 3 a.m., according to the Shakopee Fire Department, at County Road 101 and Valley Park Drive.

Five train cars are thought to have derailed.

Nobody was injured in the incident and no hazardous materials are involved, but fire officials say "the railroad crossing will be closed for some time."

The derailment is just south of County Road 101, but won't be causing any disruption to fair-goers as Valleyfair doesn't open for the season until May 11.
