'Treat for the masses': Target-Altuzarra fashion collaboration

Target is in the news, but in the fashion press, not the financial pages. The day after another disappointing earnings report was issued, Target has announced its next high-end fashion design collaboration.

The Minneapolis-based retailer on Thursday announced that it will partner with Altuzarra – "a luxury fashion brand known for merging femininity, sophistication and practicality," according to the press release. The women's limited-edition collection includes nearly 50 pieces, ranging in price from $17.99 to $89.99 for apparel and lingerie, to $29.99 to $79.99 for shoes and accessories.

Designer Joseph Altuzarra, a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award winner, is highly regarded by fashionistas and celebrities, including Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Bosworth. He joins other designers that have had successful limited partnerships with the discounter, including Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung and Missoni.

You could practically hear the squeals of delight coming from the New York City-based fashion press. Harpers Bazaar writes, "It's going to be a very good Fall for fashion lovers looking for a deal," while Refinery29, which bills itself as "the largest independent fashion and style website in the United States," enthused, "That's right: The big, old bull's-eye is getting a dose of seriously elegant, French style by way of one of New York's most sought-after designers," their story reads. "The Joseph Altuzarra for Target collection will officially arrive September 14, once again providing the perfect post-Fashion Week treat for the masses."

The collection will be available at most Target stores in the United States and Canada and at Target.com. An edited assortment of the Target collection will be available globally at Net-A-Porter.com.

Target's behind-the-scenes website ABullseyeView includes a preview sketch of a full-sleeved maxi-dress, and this quote from designer Joseph Altuzarra: “I designed this beautiful, elegant full length dress as part of the Altuzarra for Target collection to add a sense of glamour to the collection. I envision women wearing this dress to special occasions and feeling confident, sexy and sophisticated.”
