Truth comes out: OTA's give fans 'fake football fix'

Yes, the Vikings are engaging in Organized Team Activities this week. It's the first of 10 OTA sessions, which will climax in mid-June with the mandatory mini-camp.

So if you're a Purple die-hard, it's yet another step toward the kickoff to 2013.

But, if you're a casual fan, it probably doesn't amount to much. Just voluntary practices. Or as, the Star-Tribune put it: "Trying to deliver definitive judgments on individual players and the team as a whole during OTAs is akin to trying to forecast the success of a marriage based on the efficiency of the wedding rehearsal."

Nevertheless, the Star Tribune features six players "under the radar" to keep tabs on.

The same for Mike Wobschall, from He features 10 storylines to watch during OTAs.

From Dan Zinksi, of The Vikings Age blog, a bit of reality-based humor: "None of it matters. But we’ll pretend it matters because it’s football. And we’re just desperate for anything to talk about. Read about. Speculate about. This crap owns us. And the NFL knows it and the media know it. That’s how they get away with presenting this crap as news. It’s actually a farce. We are all just dancing monkeys. But what the hell? What else are we gonna do? Watch baseball?"

Well, the Twins are playing the Brewers....

This just in! A telling tweet from ESPN 1500:
