The chef behind a popular Twin Cities food truck is hoping to create the first "fully indigenous restaurant experience."
Chef Sean Sherman, who is Oglala Lakota from the Pine Ridge Reservation, opened the Tatanka Truck – a food truck that features "pre-contact foods of the Dakota and Minnesota territories" – in 2015.

The fundraising website says this would be the first all-indigenous Native American restaurant. Sherman hopes to create a gathering place for "exceptional pre-colonial food, a culinary training center for Native peoples, and a new celebration of our American culture," the website says. (Sherman has been running a catering and food education business in the Twin Cities since 2014.)
Sherman is looking to raise at least $100,000 by the end of the month. In the first 24 hours, The Sioux Chef Kickstarter had raised 10 percent of its goal, according to an update on the fundraising site.
The Pioneer Press says money from the Kickstarter would go to buying restaurant space that could fit communal tables, wood ovens, and hopefully room for gardens to grow native foods.
