The Twins are planning to call up left-hander Nik Turley to make his big league debut on Sunday, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. Turley will have be added to the 40-man roster so a corresponding roster move will have to be made in the meantime.

Earlier this week, GoMN.com touched on how electric Turley has been this season. In his last start for Triple-A Rochester on June 6, Turley struck out 15 batters in six innings, while striking out the side four times.

The south paw has split time between Double-A and Triple-A this season, appearing in 12 games (eight starts) while punching out 84 batters in 52 innings of work and dangling an ERA of 3.50.

Only the Texas Rangers are averaging less strikeouts per 9 innings than the Twins in the American League this season, so Turley gives the pitching staff a much needed boost.

The 27-year-old signed with the Twins this winter as a free agent after bouncing around in the Yankees, Giants and Red Sox's system.
