For the first time since 2008 the Twins are victorious on Opening Day, as they defeated the Kansas City Royals 7-1 Monday afternoon.

The game was tied at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, and the Twins loaded the bases. That led to the Royals walking in three straight runs with the bases juiced.

With the bases still loaded, Minnesota busted the game open when Jason Castro and Jorge Polanco drove in three more runs, making it a 7-1 lead. The Twins never looked back.

Starting pitcher Ervin Santana was dominant on the mound throwing 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits, and striking out 3 while picking up the win.

Other highlights included Miguel Sano hitting a mammoth home run that left the bat at 113 miles-per-hour, reaching the second deck of the left-center perch at Target Field.

With the win the Twins are 1-0 on the season and will be back in action on Wednesday. Hector Santigao will start on the mound for Minnesota.
