A prominent Twin Cities doctor was one of two people killed in a shooting in Orono on Friday night.
WCCO reports that family members have identified one of the victims as 74-year-old Dr. Stephen Larson. Larson worked as an Ob/Gyn in Edina and Burnsville. His daughter said the shooting took place at his home.
Police found Larson dead inside the home after they responded to an unknown trouble call at his residence in the 1000 block of Heritage Lane, just before 9 p.m.
When police arrived they found another man armed with a handgun in the front yard of the residence, according to a report from KSTP. Shots were fired during that confrontation, that man was shot and killed by police, outside. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released his name.
The Star Tribune reports the family does not know who it was that killed Larson.
Christor Ivins Larson of Lone Tree, Colorado told the newspaper by phone, “Due to the limited amount that we know about what happened, I’m not sure that it’s prudent to comment on anything at this point.” He added that he had lost a "great dad" but knew little more.
KARE11 reports no officers were injured.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
