One person was shot and another suffered a blunt-force injury to the head after a terrifying home invasion in Brooklyn Park.

Seven adults and two children were in the property on the 8000 block of Brunswick Avenue in the early hours of Friday morning when three armed, masked men burst into the property.

Brooklyn Park police said in a news release that when they arrived, they found a man with a non-life threatening gunshot wound and another man with a head injury.

The suspects fled before police arrived, with investigators saying the motive for the home invasion is believed to be robbery.

Deputy Chief Mark Bruley told WCCO that it was a targeted attack but is proving a complex case to investigate, with the suspects in the home for almost an hour.

The Gun Violence Archive tallies reported home invasions across the U.S., and according to its statistics the Brooklyn Park incident is the third in Minnesota this year so far.

The others, it says, were in North Minneapolis in February and Griggs Avenue North in St. Paul earlier this month.
