U of M chemist is one of Popular Science's "Brilliant 10"

Popular Science pays tribute to ten young researchers whose innovations will change the world. One is University of Minnesota chemist Christy Haynes, who studies platelets. The tiny particles circulate in the bloodstream and regulate clotting. Haynes' team is the first to isolate them for study.

Popular Science says the University of Minnesota's Christy Haynes is one of ten young researchers whose innovations will change the world.

Haynes studies platelets. They circulate in the bloodstream and help control clotting but are much smaller and stickier than other blood cells, making them harder to study.

The University announced Haynes' selection with a press release. Her research group also studies nanoparticles and their toxicity.

Here's a video of a presentation by Haynes and fellow chemists at St. Paul's West Seventh Community Center on World Chemistry Day:

That trip was in 2009 but the visits to the community center have become an annual event, which was held again this summer.
