U.S. Rep. Bachmann to begin airing ads 18 months before Election Day
It's the political version of starting a Christmas sale in June.
MinnPost reports that U.S. Rep Michele Bachmann's re-election campaign will begin running TV ads over the next two weeks. The ads are scheduled to run primarily during news broadcasts.
A $14,500 ad buy would not be considered especially large in the runup to Election Day, but an ad campaign 18 months before the polls open is unusual.
MPR notes that it's 538 days until voters cast ballots to elect members of Congress.
Bachmann won a close re-election over businessman Jim Graves last fall. He has announced that will again challenge the 6th District Republican incumbent in 2014.
