The teenage daughter of U.S. sprinter Tyson Gay was killed in a shooting in Kentucky early Sunday morning.
Lex 18 reported that 15-year-old Trinity Gay was shot in the neck after a group of men in two cars began shooting at each other at around 4 a.m.
Gay confirmed to the TV station that she had died, saying: "She didn't make it. I'm so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It's so crazy. I have no idea what happened."
Lexington police released a statement, saying that the teenager died at the UK Hospital, and that two people have been detained for questioning.
The sporting world has been paying tribute and offering support to the sprinter, who is a former 100m, 200m and 4x100m World Champion.
