Rumors circulated of late that U2 would make a stop in Minneapolis on its global The Joshua Tree tour, and the rumors were confirmed Tuesday morning.

The Irish rockers will play the home of the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 8, U.S. Bank Stadium confirmed on its website, with tickets going on sale Friday at 11 a.m.

The band is touring on the back of the 30th anniversary of its 1987 album, The Joshua Tree, which featured major hits including "Where the Streets Have No Name," "With or Without You," and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."

Details on prices have not yet been revealed, though the Star Tribune notes that tickets to other dates on the tour have been in the $35-$250 range.

The newspaper notes that general admission floor tickets going for $70 could well see attendance break the 50,000 record set by Metallica.

U2 will become the third major act to play the stadium this summer, joining Guns 'N Roses on July 30 and Coldplay on Aug. 12.

And the show will take place just three days before the Minnesota Vikings play their first regular season game, a Monday Night Football contest against the New Orleans Saints.
