The Pioneer Press reports the St. Paul City Council voted to reject a plan for a popular Minneapolis bakery to open another location on Grand Avenue. City leaders say Cupcake needs to have 10 guaranteed parking spots to have a beer and wine license. And the bakery's owner says he would need such a license to afford to operate on Grand.

Demo of St. Paul's Ford plant could start in May

However, the Pioneer Press reports Ford officials still need to apply for demo permits from the city. A company spokeswoman claims the Ford Site Planning Task Force is on schedule to bring down the 86-year-old assembly plant in Highland Park.

Cub Foods joins urban farming venture in St. Paul

J&J Distributing and New York-based BrightFarms have teamed up to build a new 38,000-square-foot hydroponic greenhouse in St. Paul. It is expected to generate more than 350,000 pounds of fresh produce a year, employ six people and create 50 jobs during construction. Stillwater-based Cub Foods says the locally grown food will arrive on its store shelves this fall.

Police kill a bear in St. Paul overnight

Officers were called to the city's Frogtown neighborhood early Sunday morning after a bear was seen roaming the area. WCCO reports the Department of Natural Resources was contacted and advised police to shoot the black bear versus tranquilizing.
