Team USA's lengthy Ryder Cup drought is over after defeating the Europeans in convincing fashion Sunday afternoon at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska.

Ryan Moore had three putts to clinch the victory on the 18th hole and he only needed two to do it, giving the U.S. the necessary 14 1/2 points to win. The U.S. was leading 17-10 with one group left on the course at the time this story was published.

Europe had won the previous three Ryder Cups.

The highlight of the day was an epic dual between Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia, who made great shot after great shot before both birdied the 18th hole with long putts to finish all square.

"This was a hard-fought battle today," Mickelson, who shot a 63 on the day, told NBC shortly after finishing his round. "A lot of emotion and I thought we both played well – and probably a fitting end that we end in a tie."

The final round of the Ryder Cup is packed with pressure because it's mono-y-mono as golfers play head-to-head for 18 holes.

Three groups were still on the course when the Americans sealed the win.

  • Patrick Reed (USA) 1 up over Rory MciLroy
  • Henrik Stenson (Europe) 3&2 over Jordan Spieth
  • Thomas Pieters (Europe) 3&2 over J.B. Holmes
  • Rickie Fowler (USA) 1 up over Justin Rose
  • Rafa Cabrera Bello (Europe) 3&2 over Jimmy Walker
  • Phil Mickelson (USA) halved with Sergio Garcia
  • Ryan Moore (USA) 1 up over Lee Westwood
  • Brandt Snedeker (USA) 3&1 over Andy Sullivan
  • Brooks Koepka (USA) 5&4 over Danny Willett
  • Zach Johnson (USA) 4&3 over Matt Fitzpatrick
  • Dustin Johnson (USA) 1 up over Chris Wood
  • Martin Kaymer (Europe) 1 up over Matt Kuchar (through 17)
