USB cables: The Amazon product Twin Cities shoppers can't wait to buy

Amazon has revealed which products Twin Cities shoppers urgently need, by analyzing its same-day deliveries.

You buy a new phone, tablet or television and realize there's a cable you desperately need – so what do you do?

Shoppers in Minneapolis are turning to Amazon, opting to take advantage of the same-day delivery option the online retail giant offers in the Twin Cities.

Amazon has released shopping data from the past month and last year's holiday season to show what products customers are ordering for same-day delivery through Amazon Prime Now.

In Minneapolis, a desire to hook up gadgets and TVs is what is prompting the most urgency, with the Apple-certified Lightning to USB cables and high-speed HDMI 2.0 cables being the two most popular products for same-day delivery over the past month.

No doubt there were plenty of people with new electronics they picked up during the Black Friday weekend sales, which is perhaps why the new Echo Dot and Amazon Echo home hubs (which were discounted over Black Friday) were also popular picks for same-day delivery in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Delivery choices highlight last-minute panic

The need for gadget cables was replicated on a national scale last year in early December, when ethernet, HDMI and USB cables were the top-sellers as Christmas approached.

Other popular picks were family games including the Pie Face Game and Connect4.

As the big day approaches, shoppers who either forgot, or couldn't be bothered, to pick up gift wrap, tissue paper and tags were also making use of Amazon's delivery service this time last year.

The same goes for desperate party-planners frantically organizing, with last-minute supplies such as plastic tablecloths, dessert plates and party hats shooting up the purchase charts the closer we get to Christmas.

In some cases they'll pay a premium. Same-day delivery is free for Prime customers spending more than $35, but there's a $5.99 charge for spending under $35.

Non-Prime members pay $8.99 per order plus 99c per item.
